Testing…Testing…Testing!
My sweet girl has had testing anxiety since she was in Kindergarten. I never really understood why. Her daddy and I are the type of parents that don’t put a ton of pressure on her or expect her to score perfect 100’s or even make straight A’s. We’ve always encouraged hard work (Proverbs 13:4, Colossians 3:23) and to complete it to the best of your ability. So she doesn’t have any pressure on her, so why so much anxiety?
I believe she puts pressure on herself. She wants to make her family proud, her teachers proud, and her school proud. Her school, along with many others, are feeling the increased pressure, and while teachers do their best to keep it out of their classroom, it is felt by all. Kids have worked all year preparing for these test, but knowing these test, that have once been looming, are now in their presence, it can create panic and performance anxiety. Seeing the stress in all the faces at school, makes everyone a little on edge. I know the teachers are encouraging and do what they can to make it less stressful. This momma is thankful for that! But what can we do as parents?
Last year, I created a ROCK! A ROCK she could put in her pocket, that would serve as a visible reminder that she will ROCK her test!
It was not just any ROCK…but a ROCK with scripture written all over it! There are over 56 scriptures that say God is our Rock! It’s important for my children to know with Him all things are possible! We can pray and teach them the Truth. Pray these specific scriptures that tells us that God is our ROCK, our shield, our deliverer. Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will pray…pray for my children, your children and all those involved with “testing”! I know that my sweet girl can and will ROCK HER TESTS!!!!
What about your family? Do you have a child that is anxious about testing? Building All Children is here to help your family!
Samuel 2:2 There is none holy like the Lord; there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.
Love the rock idea! I can think of so many ways I could encourage my kids, husband, and friends this way. Thanks for sharing TRUTH!
