Helping Children Build Strong Literacy Foundations

BUILDing All Readers® is a specialized tutoring program for 1st through 4th grade children who are reading below grade level. Designed for students recommended by BAC Child Development Specialists*, this six-month program provides personalized, one-on-one tutoring sessions once/twice a week.

Our approach uses the proven Orton-Gillingham method, offering structured, multi-sensory reading support tailored to each child’s unique needs. Prayer, daily homework, and active parental involvement are essential parts of the program.

*Children must complete a BAC assessment and family conference before enrollment.

Read

We systematically teach children to decode words using a phonics-based approach. Through decodable readers that align with each lesson, children practice and improve:

  • Confidence

  • Fluency

  • Vocabulary

  • Reading enjoyment

A young girl is sitting at a table, writing on a sheet of paper with a yellow pencil. She is in a library or classroom with bookshelves filled with colorful books in the background. The girl has long, wavy blonde hair and is wearing a gray T-shirt with a pink design.

Write

Writing is a critical part of reading development. Students learn to “encode” words as they learn to decode them. Through multi-sensory techniques like finger tapping and syllable segmentation, children gain skills in:

  • Spelling

  • Sentence construction

  • Letter-sound correspondence

Think

We help children become active thinkers. Reading comprehension is taught with engaging strategies that encourage children to:

  • Understand what they read

  • Make predictions

  • Retell stories

  • Connect ideas

Pre-Reading Enrichment

Build Readiness Before They Begin to Read

Building All Children® has created a custom home program for our children that have been referred to Building All Readers®. This program is designed to strengthen their basic skills and foundational skills. Here is what the child will be working on before he/she receives an informal reading assessment.

  • Phonemic Awareness

Rhyming, blending, segmenting, isolating sounds, and manipulating phonemes.

  • Literacy Skills

Alphabet knowledge, letter recognition, and early language awareness.

  • Reading Log

We strongly encourage families to read aloud to their children daily to increase exposure to language and help books become a joyful part of everyday life.

Research shows that the two strongest predictors of early reading success are alphabet recognition and phonemic awareness. (Adams, 1990)

*Children must complete a BAC assessment and family conference before being recommended for Building Readers.
